This isn’t to say that Splitgate doesn’t have enough content. Not at all, there are many modes that players can try out and a reasonable handful of weapons that gives players a clearer path to mastery. Lockdown is one mode that players can enjoy, which itself is basically a mixture of Hardpoint and Domination from Call of Duty. Just like with tips to win Hotzone, players should heed these Lockdown tips and tricks to improve their chances of winning matches.
Choose To Be Unpredictable
Players who fall into the “lone wolf” category will no doubt want to do their own thing, killing opponents in order to help the team but largely having a solo experience, going their own routes and seeking the enemy out without backup. However, it is a classic Splitgate mistake to try and solo multiple people at once without having flanked them as the attacking options open via portals make it too risky.
This can be very effective, even against coordinated opponents, as the unpredictable nature of a player attempting to solo them can take them by surprise or distract them long enough for the lone wolf’s team to come in and save the day. For this playstyle, players will have to have quick reflexes, good map awareness, and a decent weapon to stand a chance.
Choose To Be Coordinated
Most players do like to rush in on FPS games, and in public lobbies, the chance of coming across randomers who will want to work as a team is not that high, with frustrating players being a typical Splitgate meme. People who don’t have anyone they know to play Splitgate with should try to be that person: a random teammate who chooses to be coordinated and work together with their companions to take objectives.

Coordination will nearly always lead to a team winning in an objective-based game mode. The teams that are uncoordinated will often start fights too early, leading to their opponents getting a foothold on an area of the map and being able to lock it down.
Beware Of Changing Hills
When players first enter a game of Lockdown, they may assume that it is like Call of Duty’s Domination. However, the three hills move throughout the map as the game goes on, forcing both teams to move with it, thus maintaining the fast-paced nature of Splitgate. This is a pro Splitgate tip for those seeking to improve their Win/ Loss ratio in Lockdown.
Players should make sure that they don’t get too comfortable while holding down a Hill, as sooner or later it will move. This is helpful in instances where a player’s team is proving unable to capture a particular Hill from the opponents, perhaps because they’re good at map control or have better positions, amongst other things. In this case, it is better for a team to instead take the other two objectives and know that when the Hills change location the opposing team will be forced to move out of their spot and travel, making it easier to cut them off.
Travel Fast
Splitgate is a very fast-paced game in general, so players will likely not be surprised that they need to be moving quickly when in a round of Lockdown. Not only are there three objectives to take across relatively small maps, but the Hills locations change every so often, forcing players to move.

The portal mechanic exists to help players travel quicker as well as being able to get an added line of sight onto an enemy. Players who are not familiar enough with using the portal mechanic may find themselves lagging behind, as generally, the competition is harder in objective-based game modes.
Take The Right Power Weapons
Power weapons pop up in games of Splitgate every couple of minutes, offering an advantage to the first player to pick them up. As a result, the areas holding power weapons tend to see a lot of action. It is unwise for any player to avoid the power weapons completely, but they should take care to take the right one depending on the situation. While all Splitgate weapons are useful, the power weapons are the best.
For example, if an objective is a tight, narrow corner of the map that the player has to go into before being able to see any enemies, they would be best off not taking the sniper rifle due to everybody being in proximity. They could take a rocket launcher, but then they’d have to be careful about whether it kills them along with their opponents. Players should take power weapons that fit their play style and the situation they’re in to get the best out of them.
Map Awareness Is Crucial
Map awareness is important in any mode of Splitgate, any FPS game for that matter. However, it is doubly crucial in a game mode such as Lockdown. Multiple objectives moving around the map means that opponents can come from anywhere and no area is safe from the fighting, so players will want to avoid getting blindsided. Take for instance the best Stadium portal locations, which can easily improve a player’s performance on that map. Map awareness is crucial no matter what.
Being aware of the map and different routes opponents can take will give players the opportunity to cut them off and rack up a ton of kills. Similarly, being aware of what’s in vision helps players to be more spatially aware of portal locations that opponents could use to flank them.
Splitgate was released in 2019 and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox One Series X|S, and Linux.
