The announcement of Nintendo’s newest Direct comes as the first major update for Splatoon fans in quite some time. While social media accounts have remained active, Splatoon 3 has not received a new trailer since April when Nintendo confirmed the game’s September release date. The Direct comes following other major reveals for first party Nintendo games with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Bayonetta 3 receiving trailers in the past month. Now, Nintendo is set to bring plenty of Splatoon 3 news, confirming a Direct is coming in just a couple of days.

Nintendo’s newest Direct presentation is set to take place on August 10, slated for the developer’s usual 6 A.M. PT start time. Nintendo’s announcement for the Splatoon 3-themed Direct promises “roughly 30 minutes of updates” about the sequel during the livestream. The presentation will be Splatoon 3’s first solo broadcast since its reveal with many fans of the franchise eager to see more of the game. Nintendo’s official announcement did not reveal any specific details about the contents of the broadcast, outside of the generic “updates” descriptor.
The newest reveal for Splatoon 3 comes as Nintendo has been looking to send Splatoon 2 out with a bang throughout 2022. The previously mentioned April release date trailer came alongside Splatoon 2’s Octo Expansion being added to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass. Nintendo has also revealed that the release of Splatoon 3 will feature a brand-new Splatoon-themed model for the Switch OLED, the first special edition for the Switch upgrade.
Splatoon 3 is set to kick off a Fall season jam-packed with heavy hitters on the Switch between first-party and third-party games. Bayonetta 3 and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are set to follow Splatoon’s September release with the two games launching in October and November respectively. Fall will also feature a handful of high-profile third-party games coming to Switch between Nier Automata and the long-awaited arrival of Persona 5 on Switch. Splatoon 3’s Direct will look to give fans plenty of reasons to be excited for September.
Splatoon 3 is scheduled to release on September 9th, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
