Splatoon 3: How to Get Sheldon Licenses
There are two ways to get Sheldon Licenses, and the first is to level up. For full clarity, players can level up by participating in online multiplayer matches in Splatoon 3, and a single Sheldon License is awarded upon every level increase. Fans that are looking to unlock new weapons are thus advised to settle in and start grinding Regular and Ranked Battles.

The other way to earn Sheldon Licenses is to raise a weapon’s Freshness level, and one License is awarded with each Freshness increase. Players can raise the Freshness of their weapons in Splatoon 3 by using them in online multiplayer matches, and the level of each weapon is tracked separately. This means that every weapon that is unlocked provides new opportunities for gaining weapon Freshness levels and earning Sheldon Licenses.
To note, there is actually a second type of Sheldon License, known as a Gold Sheldon License, which is not earned through character or weapon progression. Instead, three of these special Licenses are awarded to players that have Splatoon 2 save data on their consoles, and each one can be used to unlock any weapon regardless of the fan’s level. While it is possible that there will be additional opportunities for earning Gold Sheldon Licenses in the future, players should be thoughtful about how they spend them for the time being.
Splatoon 3: How to Use Sheldon Licenses
To unlock weapons with Sheldon Licenses, Splatoon players should make their way to Ammo Knights in Splatsville. Fans can travel to this location quickly by pressing X to open the map and then selecting the Weapons shop. Once there, fans can pick the weapon that they want to unlock from the row at the bottom of the screen, and they can even test it out before making their purchase. Notably, players can unlock any weapon that they want at Ammo Knights, though weapons that are beyond their current level will cost additional Licenses.
