Certain requirements will require players to upgrade their ship as well as the rooms these passengers are living in to better improve their time on the voyage, though this doesn’t come free. Resources need to be collected, such as the highly valuable Pulsar Ore, which, unlike other ore in-game, can’t be planted atop of the Turtle sisters. Therefore, some players may be confused about where to get it and what it is used for.
Where Is Pulsar Ore Found?
Many of the metallic ores that can be used in crafting within Spiritfarer can be found and mined from a variety of islands as the player travels between them. Pulsar Ore is a separate case. While also not being able to plant and regrow this ore on the back of one of the Turtle Sisters, this ore can only be earned through completing the Pulsar Rays mini-game provided by passengers Bruce and Mickey.
This event can only be accessed in certain locations on the map. The easiest to access is in the Oxbury Region found in the south-eastern area of the map. Players will need to have unlocked the Rock Destroyer for their boat to access this area of the sea. The second area where this event can be found is in the Crow’s End Region. This is found in the Northeast sub-region of the map and can only be accessed once the player has unlocked the Mist Cleaner 1000 boat upgrade to get through the thick mist that hides away these islands from the map.
Recruiting Bruce And Mickey
Even if players unlocked these areas to travel into, players wouldn’t be able to start the mini-game until they have met and recruited the spirits Bruce and Mickey onto the boat. This thuggish pair come as a two-for-one deal being brothers in another life. Bruce, the hummingbird who sits upon his Bull brother’s head does all the talking while on the boat, as they reminisce constantly about the lavish life they once lived.
Bruce and Mickey are found at the Southpoint Docks in the industrial region. Players will need to first have unlocked the Rock Destroyer upgrade for their boat to get through the jagged rocks that block these unpleasant islands from the rest of the map. This dastardly duo will still not accept an invitation onto the boat until accepting and completing their first quest called Bullying For Beginners where the player will need to intimidate the workers as per the brother’s request. After proving the player has what it takes, the brothers will gladly accept a play on the ship.
How To Complete The Pulsar Rays Mini-Game
Once the player has recruited the brothers the next quest instructed by them actually takes the player to try out this mini-game. They will be ordered to go to one of these areas in the sea to attempt to catch as many Pulsar Rays as possible. Similar to the Jellyfish event given by Gwen during the event Pulsar Rays will shoot across the screen, they are incredibly fast. Sometimes they will come from different directions as well as not following a completely straight path as they will circle around before continuing forwards, leaving the player to use every ability available to them.
This is by far one of the hardest events, but once a player has got in the way of a Pulsar Ray, this will then convert it into a piece of Pulsar Ore for them to use. The event will also go on for a while, allowing the player to have several chances at it before they must go to a different Pulsar Ray event area. In the end game, this event also has a deadly variant which makes the mini-game even harder.
What To Do With Pulsar Ore
In its current state as Pulsar Ore, the material doesn’t have much of a purpose other than being a shiny blue rock that a player can carry around in their inventory. However, once they have unlocked and built the Foundry building through one of Astrid’s requests, players can now transform this material into Pulsar Ingots. This, in itself, is an interesting mini-game where players must balance the temperature of the forge in a hope to successfully create the ingots that are wanted.
In its new shiner form, the Pulsar Ingot will be required in a lot of what many players consider as being the endgame requests and buildings. This mainly focuses on Bruce and Mickey’s storyline as suggested through this material being earned from their mini-game. However, it does also branch into having its use for other passengers as well as upgrading some crafting stations players commonly must use.
