Spidey becomes the second announced post-launch DLC character coming to Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ superhero game, following Hawekeye’s reveal last week during the War Table stream.

In a blog post on the official PlayStation site, Jeff Adams Associate Art Direct at Crystal Dynamics gushed over being able to bring Spider-Man to life in this new game.

“This is so personal for me because I cannot remember a time when I didn’t love Marvel and its colorful characters, each more real and believable than the next,” Adams wrote. “But despite my enjoyment of Captain America, Iron Man Black Widow, and the other Avengers, there was always one character I saw myself reflected in, and that was Peter Parker: The Sensational Spider-Man. Now I’m getting to channel my lifelong enjoyment of the character into a version of the interactive hero that I hope inspires the next generation of creators… and well, it’s my dream come true.”

As for how Peter Parker will fight in Marvel’s Avengers, Adams revealed that players will feel “graceful and light” when going through the air on Spider-Man’s web line. Parker will also come with a variety of different gadgets that will help him with both fighting and traversing.

Players will also enjoy how seamlessly Spider-Man transitions from traversing to battling and vice-versa.

Fans of Marvel’s Avengers will get to customize their Spider-Man the way they want to using the game’s various skill trees. Level up your Spider-Man, and use the points gained to enhance their abilities in battle and in the overworld. If you want to be a more melee-focused fighter, then enhance Spidey’s hand-to-hand fighting. If web slinging and long-range battling is your method of choice, then level up those areas.

The base game will come with six characters: Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Ms Marvel and Iron Man, but players will be able to add new characters for free as part of Crystal Dynamics’ post-launch plans.

Similar to how Hawkeye will be introduced, Spider-Man will come with their own Hero Missions to give more background on how Peter Parker fits into this new universe created for the game.

Spider-Man will join the Marvel’s Avengers roster at no additional cost to owners of the base game, exclusively on PlayStation.

Marvel’s Avengers releases for PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 4.
