Spidergeddon was officially announced by Marvel about a month ago with a cryptic message saying, “Spidergeddon is nigh,” and a hint that Venom and/or Spider-Man’s iconic black suit was related. About a week ago another update was sent out by Marvel, a comic cover teaser featuring 15 different Spider-heroes from assorted realities and timelines. There was an unidentified figure in that teaser, a silhouette erased from the page that was revealed to be Insomniac’s Spider-Man, according to an exclusive from Polygon.

In the fall, Insomniac’s Spider-Man, who by all accounts is a relatively normal take on Peter Parker, will take up arms with other Spider-powered heroes including Spider-Gwen, Ultimate Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Superior Spider-Man (Doctor Octopus), Silk, a Spider-Man Tsum Tsum plushie, and the Peter Parker Spider-Man we all know and love from the comics. How Insomniac’s Spider-Man will fit into the mix is anyone’s guess, but he’s now an official part of the gang.

Virtually nothing is known about Spidergeddon beyond the 15 confirmed protagonists, though more may find their way into the book by launch. The lack of information is already stirring up questions regarding the forthcoming Spider-Man video game. Luckily, Spidergeddon writer Christos Cage, who also helped with writing in the game, had some answers:

Cage would go on to confirm that Spidergeddon will occur after the events of Insomniac’s Spider-Man and that, while the comic will avoid spoiling the events of the game, the game will be important to understanding “where Pete’s head is during the event.”

Today’s news all but confirms it, as if the quality of what’s been shown of Insomniac’s Spider-Man didn’t before, but this series is only just beginning. If we had to guess, Insomniac is likely working on Spidergeddon DLC for the Season Pass.

Marvel’s Spider-Man releases on September 7 exclusively for the PS4.
